Rumored Samsung Galaxy S10 in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor to one-up the competition

In-display fingerprint sensors aren’t anything too new. We’ve seen a couple on concepts and Chinese-exclusive phones, and now they’re becoming common on devices like the OnePlus 6T and Huawei Mate 20 Pro. However, rumor has it that Samsung is going to one-up the competition with the Galaxy S10. The device will allegedly have an ultrasonic sensor. This sensor was developed several years ago by Qualcomm but hasn’t hit consumer products so far. Rather than using an optical sensor to take a photo of your fingerprint, this ultrasonic sensor more accurately maps your finger, thus being more secure and accurate when compared to the current in-display sensors that have hit the market thus far. This sensor may take up 30% of the display, making it easier to blindly unlock your phone. And even more interesting is that it will replace the iris scanner that Samsung has featured on all its flagship smartphones since the Note 7 was released. The tech will allegedly be exclusive to Samsung for at least the first half of 2019 so it should give the device an edge over the competition. In-display fingerprint sensors have been hit-or-miss so far, so we look forward to seeing how the Samsung Galaxy S10’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor compares. Compared to optical fingerprint sensors, the S10 ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is faster and has a larger recognition area, and 30% of the screens may be recognized. — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) November 2, 2018
