Google brings its Safety Center to India to help users manage their privacy and security online

A Google logo. Google has doubled down on family safety and security for its users in India by rolling out its newly expanded Safety Center in India. The platform, available at safety.google, empowers users to stay safe online and helps them manage their privacy and security. Users in India will get access to a wide range of tools and resources – from basic security guidelines and tips for ensuring family-friendly experience on the web to information on data security, privacy controls, etc. The new Safety Center is available in nine Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. A couple of months ago, the company had launched its Family Link app in India with an aim to empower parents to set digital ground rules for their kids by managing their Google Accounts, as well as device and app usage. The Google Safety Center is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to give users tools and information so they know how their data is used in Google services – a concern that’s gained prominence after a series of infamous data breaches at Facebook. Google says that it looks at these seven principles to guide its products, processes, and people in keeping the users’ data private, safe, and secure. 1. Respect our users. Respect their privacy. 2. Be clear about what data we collect and why. 3. Never sell our users’ personal information to anyone. 4. Make it easy for people to control their privacy. 5. Empower people to review, move, or delete their data. 6. Build the strongest security technologies into our products. 7. Lead by example to advance online security for all. India is the second largest Internet user base in the world. While the improved connectivity and affordable smartphones and data has opened a new world online for millions, users online or those coming online for the first time, need to be aware of the possible negative experiences that they may incur on the web.
