LG V40 ThinQ: All the rumors in one place (Updated: September 11)

In this post, which will be updated regularly, we take a closer look at the latest rumors surrounding LG’s upcoming V40 ThinQ smartphone. At the beginning of the year, it was reported that LG’s CEO told the G7 ThinQ team to stop development and start from scratch. Because of this, not only was the LG G7 going to have a delayed release, it brought a lot of uncertainty to the future of the company’s V-series. Well, if you’ve been keeping track, instead of playing it safe and only releasing as few phones as possible, LG has already released two V-series smartphones in 2018. Now, to end the year off with an even number, the company is reportedly planning to release a fourth flagship smartphone called the LG V40 ThinQ. LG V40 ThinQ: Release date The nitty-gritty LG will likely host a private launch event sometime in October. The V40 ThinQ is rumored to launch in Korea in early October and internationally on October 18. While nothing has been confirmed, an early October launch date would strategically announce the V40 ThinQ before the Google Pixel 3. In past years when LG would only release a single V-series flagship, the company would host a pre-IFA event to unveil the handset. This year though, LG skipped IFA and pushed back the announcement and release of the V40 ThinQ to better compete with the upcoming iPhone and Google Pixel 3 lineup. Read on for a full rundown of the Galaxy Note 9 specs, features, price, and release date. The Galaxy Note series … Information obtained by Android Authority suggests that LG is aiming to have the V40 ThinQ on the market by mid-October. This move would strategically place the release of the flagship roughly one month after the launch of the new iPhones. LG typically doesn’t release its smartphones immediately after its announcements, so we anticipate the company launching the device in early October. Depending on when LG can arrange its launch date for the V40 ThinQ, the company could beat Google to the punch with its launch of the Google Pixel 3 lineup, which will happen on October 9. LG has yet to release any details about the forthcoming release. Additionally, in the past, LG has released some of its hardware in Korea weeks before launching things internationally. According to ETNews, South Korean customers might be able to pick up the V40 ThinQ as soon as October 5, although that doesn’t seem likely at this point. LG V40 ThinQ: Specs The nitty-gritty Android Authority has seen an official specs sheet of the LG V40 ThinQ. The specs for the device look like most other 2018 flagships, with the addition of a Hi-Fi Quad DAC and 3.5mm headphone jack. The LG V40 ThinQ will be the company’s first device with three rear camera lenses and two front-facing lenses, for a total of five cameras. Earlier in September, Android Authority got a quick look at the full specs sheet for the LG V40 ThinQ. The device’s specs line up with most other flagship smartphones released in 2018 complete with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM, a 3,300mAh battery, and up to 128GB of storage space. Editor's PickNew LG V40 ThinQ renders and video detail triple-camera setup and headphone jack Slashleaks Just a few days ago, we got our first look at LG's upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG V40 ThinQ. Now, notable leaker OnLeaks has teamed up with Slashleaks to bring us even more … Most notably, however, the LG V40 ThinQ will sport a total of five cameras: three on the rear and two on the front. It will also feature the oft-removed 3.5mm headphone jack and a Hi-Fi Quad DAC for you audiophiles out there. Per the FCC filing, the uinlocked V40 will work on the four major U.S. carriers and include band 71 and band 12 support for those of you on T-Mobile. LG V40 ThinQ: Design   Slashleaks The nitty-gritty A few different renders of the LG V40 ThinQ already have leaked The design appears to be a kind of mash-up of a V35 and G7. The handset’s display will most likely include a notch. Frequent — but sometimes unreliable — leakers MySmartPrice posted the first leaked renders of the LG V40 ThinQ at the end of August. The renders show a device that looks like a mash-up of an LG V35 ThinQ and an LG G7 ThinQ. See for yourself below: Leaked press renders of the LG V40 ThinQ. MySmartPrice The renders appear legit, but there were many people who pointed out some inconsistencies in the renders, especially folks at Mashable. Luckily, more-reliable leaker @OnLeaks posted some new renders that are probably as close to the real thing as we’re going to get until we can see an actual device leak: The renders clearly show the triple camera set up on the back, the headphone jack, the USB Type-C port, and — of course — the display notch. Unfortunately, any hopes that LG would abandon the notch design with the V40 ThinQ are now likely dashed. LG V40 ThinQ: Price The nitty-gritty The LG V40 ThinQ will likely cost the same if not more than its predecessors. The unlocked model will likely set you back more than $900. Just this year, we’ve seen some price variation in LG’s V-series line. When released back in May, the LG V30S ThinQ with its slight spec bump was on sale for $930. Then, shortly after that, LG unveiled the V35 ThinQ for $900. So while we haven’t heard any rumors about what the V40 ThinQ’s price tag might be, let’s assume that the more premium nature of the phone will likely increase its cost. This is a pretty substantial chunk of cash for a phone that will probably not differ that much from the V-line’s previous devices. Editor's PickLG V40 specs leaked, launching early October Slashleaks The LG V40 specs have been leaked in full and the successor to the LG V30 looks set to once again please audio fans while skimping on a few important features. Android Authority … Even asking just $900 for the LG V40 ThinQ when you can spend that amount or less on a similarly-beefy device from other manufacturers is asking a lot. LG makes great phones, but just like many other companies, their sales are dropping fast as consumers switch to other devices like the Google Pixel 2 which offers timely updates and is overall a more reliable smartphone.
