The original Chromebook Pixel (2013) has reached its end of life

The original Google Chromebook Pixel was launched back in 2013 for $1,299. After five years, the laptop has reached its end of support and won’t receive any additional updates. The Chromebook Pixel will remain usable. Back in the early days of Chrome OS when people weren’t sure if the operating system would ever succeed, Google released the ultra-premium Chromebook Pixel. While the device was fantastic, its $1,299 price tag kept most consumers away. But for those who did buy the laptop and continue to use it today, we have saddening news as Google is no longer going to support the machine (via Droid-Life). As Google details on its support page, the company’s Auto Update policy is to support Chromebooks for six and a half years after a machine is released. Unfortunately, some legacy machines like the original Chromebook Pixel were only ever slated for five years of updates. Original Chromebook Pixel End of Life Warning Droid-Life As you can see from the screenshot above of a notification on a Chromebook Pixel, Google is currently letting owners of the laptop know that the company is no longer supporting it. Remember, unlike many Chromebooks at the time, Google packed this laptop with some of the best specs available at the time. This included a dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and Intel’s integrated HD 4000 graphics. So while users won’t get the latest security patches, the Chromebook Pixel is still a decent computer if you don’t want to upgrade at this time.
