Samsung will ship Galaxy Note 9 owners a free adapter for the Gear VR

Samsung Gear VR 2017 Samsung did not release a new Gear VR headset alongside the Galaxy Note 9. The 2017 headset that’s still for sale from Samsung is not compatible with the Note 9. Customers have to request a free adapter from Samsung to make the headset work with the phone. Samsung has worked with Oculus for the last several years to build VR headsets for its Galaxy flagships. Oddly enough, Samsung didn’t announce a new Gear VR headset alongside the Galaxy Note 9, so customers have been purchasing the 2017 model. But as some customers have recently found out, the Note 9 doesn’t fit in the Gear VR. Thankfully, Samsung will mail users a free adapter to make the two devices compatible (via SamMobile). If you head to the Gear VR’s listing on Samsung’s website, you will see a notice next to the buy button that states that the headset is “compatible with Galaxy S9 Plus, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8 and more.” Samsung doesn’t warn customers that the headset isn’t initially compatible with the Galaxy Note 9 until you scroll down the page. This news about the adapter comes a little late as some customers have ended using a dremel to make the Gear VR’s phone slot large enough to fit the Galaxy Note 9. Even with the launch of the Google Daydream View headset, which added a brand new … Customers in the U.S. can request the free adapter by contacting Samsung’s customer service department by calling 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864) or via the chat option within the Samsung+ app. Those in international markets can also reach out to customer support through the Samsung+ app. Unfortunately, at least according to SamMobile, it can take up to two weeks for the adapter to reach your doorstep. So if you ordered the Gear VR to go with your Galaxy Note 9, you’ll have to sit tight for a little bit longer.
