Premium Chromebooks seem to be a bit of a trend at IFA 2018. First we saw the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1. Now it’s Lenovo’s turn with the new Yoga Chromebook.
Dell and Lenovo’s latest Chromebooks have two things in common. First, they are more expensive than your typical Chromebook. Second, they pack bigger displays alongside higher-end specs.
The Lenovo Yoga Chromebook has a 15-inch IPS touchscreen display, with resolution options of 1920 x 1080 or 3840 x 2160. Inside you’ll find an 8th-gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, 64GB storage, and a microSD slot for memory expansion.
There’s also a 56 Wh battery, which is estimated to get about 9 to 10 hours of battery life. Compared to many other Chromebooks, this isn’t exactly huge, but it should be more than enough to get the job done. Other key features include dual USB-C ports, a full-size USB 3.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Premium meets big screen with the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook
Moving past the hardware, the Yoga Chromebook is absolutely gorgeous and its all-aluminum build should also make for a sturdier machine. As you’d expect from a Yoga device, you get Lenovo’s iconic 180-degree rotating hinge. This is far from the first Lenovo Yoga Chromebook family member, though it’s by far the most compelling.
As expected, the bigger size and beefier specs also make it a bit on the heavy side, at 4.2 pounds. Due to its massive size, the Yoga Chromebook isn’t going to be for everyone. The design makes it something you’ll probably use more around the home than lugging in your bag everywhere you go.
As someone who’s been craving a bigger display option running Chrome OS, it is a laptop I’m looking forward to testing out in the not too distant future. There are too few Chromebook options in this size category, and previously most of them have been pretty underpowered. I can admit Lenovo probably should have also offered up smaller variants as well, for those that want the same premium features in a bit more portable of a package.
The Lenovo Yoga Chromebook will set users back $599 for the base model, though that price goes up if you opt for the 4K display.
The Yoga Chromebook is the star of Lenovo’s Chromebook lineup at IFA 2018, though two other entry-level options we are also introduced – the C330 and S330.
The Lenovo Chromebook C330 is a 2-in-1 device with a 360-degree hinge and a 11.6-inch HD IPS display.There’s also a 10-point touchscreen onboard, perfectly suited for Android apps via Google Play support.
The Lenovo Chromebook S330 is a bit less interesting with a 14-inch display with no touchscreen or flipping display. You do still get Android app support, however.
Both models pack a MediaTek 8173C processor, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB storage options, and 10 hour battery life. The C330 will cost $279, while the S330 is priced at just $249.
