Sprint to customers: Everything will be wonderful after the T-Mobile merger

Sprint reportedly provided its employees with talking points they can use with customers. Employees use the talking points when customers ask them about the merger with T-Mobile. T-Mobile and Sprint officially announced plans to merge their operations. With the announcement that T-Mobile and Sprint officially plan to merge their operations, Sprint now has the unenviable task to relay the news to its customers. How does the United States’ fourth-largest carrier plan to do that? With plenty of PR speak and a comforting line or two. According to documents that XDA Developers recently obtained, Sprint gave its employees talking points if a customer asks about the merger. Reportedly, employees are supposed to say things like, “We’re very excited that Sprint and T-Mobile have agreed to merge” and “This is terrific news for customers.” If asked whether the merger will increase prices or change existing services, employees reportedly reiterate that “nothing changes for now.” That statement is a bit concerning, since it gives employees some wiggle room to provide a different answer if and when the merger wraps up and new plans go into effect. For the most part, however, we have heard these lines from T-Mobile and Sprint executives. Even if regulators sign off on it, the unpredictable Trump administration could go either way with the merger. T-Mobile and Sprint are confident they will have the merger completed by the end of June 2019, so only time will tell how the process unfolds.
