Swipe your Kingdom to glory in Reigns: Her Majesty! [Games of the week]

What are the latest games worth checking out in the Google Play Store? Update December 8, 2017: A trio of great games to enjoy this weekend! Check out Reigns: Her Majesty, a sequel to one of the best games from 2016; Keep on rolling with the Amazing Katamari Damacy; Explore the sandbox world of Portal Knights! Reigns: Her Majesty Reigns was one of the best games of 2016 and actually won the first ever Google Play Indie Games contest. So needless to say, we're pretty excited to learn that the sequel, Reigns: Her Majesty, has arrived. In Reigns, you play as the monarch of the land and make decisions that affect four aspects of the kingdom: the church, the people, the army, and the royal wealth. Your goal is to keep all four in balance — if any meter fills to the max or is entirely depleted your reign is over… and a new reign begins! The sequel plays nearly identically to the first game, except this time you play as the Queen instead of the king, complete with new characters to interact with and multiple branching storylines to discover. The gameplay is as easy as swiping left or right on cards and if it's anything like the first game there's a ton of great easter eggs to find along the way! Basically, you play as the Prince who goes around rolling your magic ball that picks up any smaller objects it rolls over. Your goal is to make the ball as big as you can without bumping into obstacles. Amazing Katamari Damacy is an endless runner that really works well with the Katamari gameplay, as you start out collecting nails and bugs but quickly grow to become big enough to collect books, cats, chairs, cars… and so on and so on. As the story goes, the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroyed the universe by spilling his bucket of black holes all over everywhere, so you gotta collect all the things while avoiding the black holes and without pissing off the King. It's a free game with in-app purchases and a loot crate system in place, and there have been some early reviews that complain that the game plays too sluggish but I had no issues playing on a Pixel XL. A mix between the open crafting world of Minecraft and a multiplayer RPG, Portal Knights features a full story to play through on your own or team up with some friends and play 4-person multiplayer (must be connected to the same Wi-Fi). The game looks beautiful, even if the graphics had to be scaled back a bit for mobile. Travel to and explore randomly generated 3D sandbox worlds as you engage in combat and battle epic bosses. Build your own hope using the crafting materials at your disposal. The game is a great pick for anyone who loves Minecraft or RPGs. Download: Portal Knights ($4.99)
