If you’ve been a fan of LG’s V-series line, you will likely enjoy the V40 ThinQ. While the South Korean company hasn’t changed the design of the handset compared to last year’s flagship, LG did pack in more camera sensors and a whole slew of new software features.

To start things off, let’s go over the LG V40 specs that we already knew from early leaks. Around front, you will find a 6.4-inch OLED display with a 3,120 x 1,440 resolution and HDR10 capable. The biggest change here compared to the V30 ThinQ is the inclusion of a notch (cue outrage).
Internally, the LG V40 ThinQ is powered by the 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 CPU, 6GB of RAM, and 64 or 128GB of built-in storage with the option to expand this up to 2TB with a microSD card. Additionally, the flagship has a 3,300mAh battery, Quick Charge 4.0 via its USB Type-C port (though the V40 only ships with a QC 3 charger), Qi wireless charging, an IP68 rating, and a MIL-STD 810G certification.
Over the last couple of years, LG has been pushing its V-series flagships towards those customers who appreciate high-quality audio. So while most other OEMs have dropped the headphone jack, the LG V40 keeps the port around as well as the company’s Hi-Fi 32-bit Quad DAC. The LG V40 specs also include the Boombox Speaker and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound that we saw on the G7 ThinQ.
The real change this year is the inclusion of three rear-facing cameras and dual front-facing selfie shooters. While we’ve seen other manufacturers start this trend, LG wanted to make sure that the array of sensors were capable of capturing anything a user could throw at the phone.

First, around back, we have the standard 12MP wide lens with a ƒ/1.5 aperture and OIS, a 16MP super wide lens with a 107° field-of-view, and a 12MP telephoto lens with a 45° field-of-view. Around front, the LG V40 specs include an 8MP sensor with a ƒ/1.9 aperture and an 80° field-of-view while the secondary lens features a 5MP sensor, ƒ/2.2 aperture, and has a 90° field-of-view.
In addition to just being able to capture a wide variety of scenes, LG is using the mix of sensors to perform various camera tricks. One of these skills is the ability to capture cinemagraphs without the need to take a combination of photos and video.
Unfortunately, one of the most significant downsides of the LG V40 specs is the fact that the phone ships running Android 8.1 Oreo. As the phone is shipping months after the release of Android 9 Pie, this decision on LG’s part can be seen as pretty unacceptable. We will have to wait and see how long it takes the South Korean company to ship the Pie update.
