On September 10, your Wear OS smartwatch will likely become an old timer

Skagen Falster review A Qualcomm event invitation suggests that a new Wear OS chipset is on the way. The September 10 event will likely be the launching pad for the update to the Snapdragon Wear 2100. This will be the first chipset update for Wear OS watches in several years. Qualcomm sent out mysterious invites today to members of the press that seems to suggest the long-awaited update to the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear chipset is finally on the way. Although the invite image itself doesn’t say much, it does seem to suggest that a new entry in the Snapdragon line will be announced on September 10 in San Francisco. This lines up with previous announcements that an updated Wear OS chipset would arrive “this fall.” See the invite image for yourself below: For the past couple of years, OEMs have launched most Wear OS smartwatches with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset. This chip is perfectly capable at running Wear OS and providing users with standard battery and speed performance. Editor's PickBest smartwatches (July 2018)Smartwatches are still a very new thing to a lot of people, and for good reason. You don't absolutely need one to get through the day, and some of the best smartwatches are much too expensive … But to go several years without an update has left the smartwatch market a bit stagnant since any watch with Wear OS is limited by the capabilities of the chipset. With a new chipset, we can only hope that smartwatches will hit the market with faster speeds, more features, and of course – longer battery life. There’s been a rumor floating around that Google will launch its own smartwatch this year, probably alongside the Google Pixel 3 which will launch not long after this Qualcomm event. It’s totally possible that the Pixel Watch (or whatever it will be called) will be the first watch to the market with the new Wear OS chipset. For now, all we can do is mark our calendars for September 10 and wait! NEXT: LG’s upcoming Wear OS smartwatch visits the FCC
