Project Fi adds 37 countries to its international coverage options

37 new countries have been added to Project Fi’s list of international coverage territories. That brings the total to 170 countries and territories where Project Fi can be used. There’s also a new international coverage notification and a sweet bonus deal for new phone buyers. Google’s telecommunications service Project Fi just sweetened the deal for international travelers. Starting today, you can enjoy text and data coverage in 37 more countries than you could yesterday, bringing Project Fi’s total coverage to 170 countries and territories. New countries on the list include Morocco, Nigeria, Monaco, Guam, Georgia, Sierra Leone, Belize, and Madagascar. The full list is at the bottom of this article. The best part about using Project Fi internationally is that there are no changes to your text and data billing. Whether you’re at home in the U.S. or traveling through Morocco, you get unlimited texting, and every GB of data is $10. You don’t have to worry about overages either, because Bill Protection caps you out at $80 per month, no matter what. Phone calls, however, will cost you $0.20 per minute outside the U.S. and are not part of the Bill Protection coverage. Project Fi scans your Gmail account for travel plans and then notifies you if the country you’re visiting is part of your coverage plan or not. This will be extremely helpful for busy travelers, as they’ll be able to know ahead of time that they can or can’t use their data plan at their next destination. This feature is automatically turned on for Project Fi customers but can be turned off if you are not into it. But, as always, the catch to Project Fi is that it only works on a very short list of phones, namely the entire Pixel line, the Moto X4 and Android One Moto X4, the Nexus 6, the Nexus 6P, and the Nexus 5X. If you don’t have one of these phones, you won’t be able to jump on Project Fi without switching.
