Designing a major product for a company like Google doesn’t happen overnight. The design process is meticulous and many prototypes are created along the way. Eventually, a winner separates itself from the crowd and we get the Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2, Google Home Mini, Pixelbook, and many other products. But what happened to all those old prototypes?
Google has published a Q&A with Ivy Ross, the president of hardware design. She is responsible for the look and feel of Google devices. Several photos show off the early design iterations of the Pixel 2, Pixelbook, and Daydream View. They also show some of the design processes for the Google Home Mini and Pixel cases.
It’s really interesting to see some of the choices Google made in the design process. You can see how every little thing is an important decision. Everything from the shade of Coral for the Home Mini to the sharpness of the corners on the Pixel 2. Check out the Q&A with Ivy Ross for more insight into her design process.
